Our Curriculum
The Swedish School in Silicon Valley provides Swedish Language Education to children between three and eighteen years. This is done by using Swedish Language Books and other material related to Sweden and Swedish traditions.
The lessons in the school (ages 6-18) are led by two teachers. The number of students varies year to year but is usually in the range of 15 - 20. In the pre-school group (ages 3 -5) there is one teacher that explores the Swedish language with the children through songs, reading books, playing games, etc. Since the school is a parent cooperative, parents take turns helping out in the classroom.
During the year the school celebrates Swedish traditions such as Lucia (Luciatåg), Christmas (julpyssel) and Easter (påskgubbar and påskgummor). At the end of the school year we sing "Den blomstertid nu kommer" and play brännboll.
The Swedish School is a California Non-Profit Corp. and functions as a parent cooperative. The school is directed by a Board which is composed of parents to the children. The education follows directives on education in supplementary Swedish as outlined by the Swedish National board of Education.
